FourSquare: A Social Marketing Site Equivalent to A Million Whispers In Your Brain

What is one thing that is common to all the social media or web 2.0 websites? You will have access to these sites from computers and multiple devices but you still retain your anonymity as far as your location is concerned.

Foursquare, however, lets people know where you are, what you are doing and much more. It follows through those passageways, alleys, twists and turns. Once you are on foursquare, it feels like you have this little device strapped to you somewhere on your body that keeps beeping and emits signals using which everyone can track you. It is twitter, facebook and Google Buzz all geared to serve answers which are location specific.

Foursquare

If you state that you are on Saigon Grill in New York; other users will just pitch in and tell you to check out other places in the union square area. For once, it will feel like you are tweeting with all those people in the street. When you ask a question, it’s as if they will all turn to you and answer.

For instance, look at some of the recent media deals it managed to snatch which might give you an insight on how foursquare works:

Foursquare’s recent relationship with HBO saw a live page surface which already has a lot of updates on specific shows and related information. It’s tie-up with explorechicago should be very handy for anyone interested to have an expert, digital guidebook that has multiple inputs coming from various people instead of the old, fat guidebook written by just a few authors.

Ever walked into a restaurant and wondering what to eat? You ask the waiter and he only has limited suggestions? How about knowing what’s really popular and what to ask for? Check out Foursquare’s deal with  Zagat—a trusted restaurant review service—which will help you know all about the restaurants in your area even before you enter it and from all those who experienced these restaurants themselves.

Is there any potential for business? Plenty. You could do a lot to earn your customers confidence and provide excellent service, for one. I will keep you updated in the next post on Foursquare.

For now, have you checked out Foursquare yet? What are your thoughts on it?
