In this week’s Digital Week in Review: Facebook is popular news source for millenials, new live streaming app called Periscope, and March Madness’ top brands.

Facebook is Primary News Source for Young Adults

According to data from eMarketer, Facebook is the social platform most used as a news source by millennials. Almost 60 percent of millennials (people born between the early 1980’s and early 2000) log into Facebook at least once a day, over half of that log in several times a day. During their time online many use their feeds as source of news and information. Most millennials will say that they will watch news stories or headlines posted by others, many will almost like and share these links.

Twitter has launched Periscope, a live streaming app for iOS, which has the ability to broadcast a constantly updating stream in real time. Twitter acquired Periscope in January for $100 million in a mixture of stock and cash.

There are searchable hashtags for different topics and the ability to follow, comment and like. Twitter sees this as an opportunity to deliver even more credible news with its live video content.

The week old iOS app will only zoom in on a large geographical regions , as to not pinpoint exactly where you live or are broadcasting from. You can also turn off your location while streaming.
