A KPI (Key Performance Indicator) is a series of metrics that are used when evaluating an online campaign and gives insight if we’re accomplishing a given set of goals.

What are the Performance Management Benefits of Establishing KPI’s?

Measuring the performance of an online campaign is pretty beneficial for obvious reasoning. Establishing and outlining a clear set of goals can help you benchmark yourself. A few reasons why this is crucial include:

  • Substantiate businesses objectives
  • A reflection of tactical performance (for yourself or for your SEO company)
  • Measure to help determine its progress towards a goal

Key Performance Indicator Examples:

There are tons of important metrics to keep an eye out on. For Search Engine optimization specifically some of the most important KPIs that should be on every strategist’s checklist includes but is not limited to:

Non-branded vs. branded keyword(s) KPIs

—          Non Branded vs. Branded

—          Returning visitors on brand term

Percentage increase of search traffic KPIs

—      Month over month

—     Year over year – gives you the ability to analyze year trends and detect any factors that might be seasonal.

Translating Organic Search into Revenue KPIs

—          Revenues per query

—          Natural search vs. paid search vs. other % of leads from an organic campaign –* it’s           helpful if you give your goals an estimated value

Defining Goals Helps Establish Success

Establishing metrics are important, is going to vary and will be situational. Goals are one of the most crucial aspects of an SEO company. If you have no goals you’re just shooting in the dark.

Taking the time out to understand markets and each client’s unique business model can go a very far way.
