Social Media Week This Week!
Social media has evolved from casual, digital chatter to something of real value for businesses all over the world. As such, it has taken a truly global dimension as in people now get together to discuss what social media can do for different spheres in our daily lives. Be it business, personal life, shopping, reviews, communities, etc., social media occupies a major territory on Internetville.
Social Media week – simultaneous conferences taking place around cities all over the world. Their main aim is to use and understand social media along with different contours such as how it influences business, public and not-for-profit organizations.
At the time of writing this post, their second annual conference is taking place
“from Feb 1st through 5th, 2010 simultaneously in New York City, Berlin, London, San Francisco, Toronto and Sao Paulo”,
according to a recent announcement on their blog.
Conferences, seminars and other such events heralded by organizations such as the Social Media Week are a great way to advocate the importance of Social media and they are certainly an opportunity for many to witness the profound impact of social media across areas of Interest. Websites like Twitter now touch almost everyone. Presently there are over 18 million users on Twitter and is projected to increase to 24 million by the end of 2010.
If you can’t make it to any of these cities in person, you can witness them all on Social Media Week website. Needless to say, these events will probably live in most formats like seminars, networking events, interactive workshops, webinars, etc.
I have always been a fan of learning through sharing and shaking hands and this is an amazing opportunity for me (and for many like me) who spend a great deal of time on Social media and trying to understand its influence on one or more of the commercial (or non-commercial) interests.
Have you been to any of the events by Social Media Week? Do you think events such as these will help in educating people about Social Media? What has been your experience so far?
