Digital Week in Review: Brands Most Engaged on Twitter, Facebook Employee Joining White House, and New Apple TV

Leigh Evenson March 20, 2015 Category Social Media

In this week’s Digital Week in Review: Social Rank lists Twitter’s most engaged brands, Facebook employee hired by the White House, and the new Apple TV will be released in June.

Most Engaged Brands on Twitter

Social Rank has put together a list of the most engaged brands on Twitter.  Interestingly enough, followers were not that influential on who was considered the most engaged. For example: Facebook has almost 14 million followers but only received engaged from 11% of those followers. The MTV Twitter account has just over 12 million followers but only 26% of their followers engage with them. The percentage of followers that actually engage is more impactful than just how many followers there are.

The brands with the highest amount of engagement from their followers were @3mNews with 77%, @Pampers with 60% and @Coronaextrausa with 60%.

David Recordon, one of Facebook’s Engineering Directors since 2009, will be joining the White House as the Director of Information Technology.  This is a newly created position by President Barack Obama. Recordon’s job will be to “ensure that the technology utilized by the White House is efficient, effective and secure.”

Last year, Obama launched the U.S. Digital Service, and hired former Google engineer Mikey Dickerson. Dickerson was part of the team that helped rescue Healthcare.gov after it catastrophic launch in 2013.

Apple plans to launch a revamped Apple TV in June at its World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco. The new model will support third party apps, Siri voice control, and internet TV service. It will also include more storage and a version of Apple’s latest mobile chip, A8.

The new Apple TV will have an updated design and an improved operating system. The new model is said to be much different than the original in an attempt to compete with other set top devices like Amazon and Roku. The last version of Apple TV to be released was in 2012.
