Don’t Give Out Your Business Card!

Friday, August 20th, 2010

A little off subject from our online marketing topics, but very much related to how we promote ourselves online.  It is very common that the first thing you do when you meet someone in a business setting, is to give out your business card, in some cases, before there is even a conversation.   I have been the beneficiary of many business cards, most I have not asked for.  With my own cards, I have changed my approach.  I find myself holding back on giving my business card out, an approach I have metaphorically adopted online.  Watch this video as Larry Sharpe from the Neo-Sage discusses this approach when you have a stack of your own cards ready to go.

Old Spice Social Media Campaign

Did It Work?

If you’re in marketing, then you already have heard about the new benchmark for social media, the Old Spice campaign.   A two day marathon of personal video responses to comments across the web, which featured celebrities like Ashton Kutcher, Alyssa Milano, George Sephanopoulos and more.  The personal video responses came from their current wildly popular television commercial personality, Isaiah Mustafah, the Old Spice guy. There were close to 200 video responses, about 6 million video views, and over 20,000 comments, which by the way, does not include the nearly 20 million views across video sharing sites for the original commercials online.  But can other brands expect this type success?  Well, the copycats are coming out of the woods already, à la Comcast, with no results to speak of.  We discuss why we think the Old Spice campaign succeeded.
