Emily Kostic September 13, 2010 Category Agency News

Search: Now Faster than the Speed of Type; Google
Google instant, with its ability to search as you type and therefore the ability to search with partial queries, was announced last week.
The Takeaway: Don’t hit the panic button, but short tail is even more important for SEO now.

Facebook testing a ‘stalker button’; CNN Tech
Facebook is testing a new subscription feature that would allow users to receive alerts any time a specific friend or business they like takes certain actions on the social network.
The Takeaway: While some may view this as an invasion of privacy for personal users, the potential uses for businesses are unlimited. Imagine making an action on Facebook and knowing everyone will be able to see it. Strategy sessions begin.

Apple Fights Spam on Ping Social Networking Site; Ecommerce-Guide
Apple’s new social network, Ping, received a thorough once-over by the company’s engineers this week after discovering that its comments section had quickly become a spammer’s haven.
The Takeaway: With every new service comes the ability to use it – and abuse it. With that in mind, don’t overlook Ping’s potential for music-related clients. The ability to follow and unfollow certain bands, fans, etc., brings the music community together in a capacity MySpace never could.

Twitter Launched Sponsored Microsite for Tracking New York Fashion Week; Mashable
With NY Fashion Week is officially underway, Twitter has launched a special microsite to help users stay in-the-know of the latest news straight from the runway and backstage.
The Takeaway: Corporate-sponsored pages for major news events could prove another way for Twitter to monetize its business and for brands to gain more exposure online.

The New York Times is Preparing Social News Service Dubbed News.me; Mashable
The New York Times will be launching News.me, a news customization feature, by the end of 2010.
The Takeaway: With so many news related startups relating to customization and social media, it may be difficult for the Times to distinguish themselves in an arena in which they are already lagging behind.
